Women's Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) with support from International Labour Organization  convened a 1-day high level policy roundtable dialogue in Lagos to discuss the gaps  in 3 identified policies, namely The National Gender Action Plan, The National Financial Inclusion Strategy  and the Women Economic Empowerment Policy.

These 3 policies support women's enterprise development and formalization in Nigeria 

 

This event attracted stakeholders from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Lagos State including all Units of  Ministry of Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Wealth Creation, Min of Justice/Office of the Public Defender, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to mention a few.

 

In addition top level successful business women entrepreneurs Networks were also in attendance, including Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) and Association of Nigerian Women Business Network. Local women entrepreneurs whose businesses were not yet formalized were also present.

 

WOCON plans to use proceedings from this dialogue as Advocacy tools for a possible policy review to promote Inclusion in the formalization of local women-owned businesses in Nigeria
