Hundreds of Nigerian women and girls are trafficked each year into forcible prostitution. They are made to endure slave-like conditions in foreign countries , notably Italy, and the Middle East. WOCON is stepping up its efforts to expose and erradicate this abusive and illegal practice.

 

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM

November 28, 2025

In commemoration of 16 days activism held annually,WOCON Team took our VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS to”ITAFAJI”,a densely-populated community on Lagos Island on Friday 28th November 2025, where we engaged residents on the dangers of Gender-based violence (GBV), Share relief materials with young women and girls and also sensitized them on how to identify, prevent and speak out against all forms of abuse.

At WOCON'S recent FRENCH EMBASSY IN NIGERIA-funded creative arts project tagged 'THREADS OF FREEDOM' where survivors of human trafficking expressed their lived experiences through arts, music and poetry. Final Exhibition was held at Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos island on 7th August 2025 in commemoration of 2025 WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

WOCON as State Coordinating office of Network Against Child Trafficking Abuse & Labour (NACTAL) LAGOS CHAPTER was present with other NGOs and Networks to celebrate this year's WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS with key stakeholders in the space and other members of NACTAL LAGOS CHAPTER in a joint Awareness Walk being an annual event to raise awareness against Trafficking in Persons and join forces to demand justice for victims

WOCON celebrated the 2025 International Women's Day with women of all ages at the popular Sandgrouse market on Lagos Island

After a Talk on "How Community and Grassroots Women Can Accelerate Action towards Gender Equality and Transformative Change", the women were encouraged to join hands with WOCON and other civil society organisations to
address systemic barriers and biases that women face, calling for a multifaceted approach.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE FOR FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION(FGM)

February 6, 2025

To commemorate the *INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE FOR FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM)* on 6th February 2025, WOCON launched its Campaign against FGM targeting young women in Itafaji Health Clinic in Itafaji area of Lagos State.
We aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of FGM, discuss its devastating consequences on women and girls and empower them to resist cultural pressure to undergo the practice.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING /EYEFON PROJECT

December 2, 2024

On Tuesday 2nd May 2023 WOCON partnered with Denny Social Welfare Hub through the Nigerian Eonen  Association Verona, on the "EYEFON" project co-funded by Ministero Dell' Interno, Nigeria Women Association Verona, Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Nigeria.

Project sensitized the Lafiaji community on the island against the dangers of Irregular migration and Trafficking in persons.

Stakeholders present included community elders, male and female, faith based leaders such as pastor, Imam and a female traditional leader, Yeye Olokun.
